Marylyn Sutherland's Obituary
Marylyn Ann Sutherland (Mary Lyn), of Hayward, CA passed away of natural causes, on July 24, 2020. She was 85 years old.
Marylyn is survived by her children, John Sutherland of Fremont, CA and Robin Sutherland (Cheryl) of Reno, NV, her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald (Ronnie) Sutherland of Hayward, CA; father Howard Bennetts of Grass Valley CA; mother Mary Bennetts of Grass Valley, CA; infant son Timothy Sutherland of Reno, NV; and her sister Beatrice Joyce Fredricks of Grass Valley, CA
Marylyn was born on March 22, 1935 in Grass Valley, CA to Howard and Mary Bennetts. She was a beautiful and happy child who loved and was loved by everyone. Marylyn was an active member of Job’s Daughters while attending Grass Valley High School in Grass Valley, CA. At the age of 15 she eloped with the love of her life Ronnie Sutherland who was 16 years old at the time by travelling to Reno, NV for their marriage. Over the next 6 years their marriage was annulled by her parents, they remarried, and subsequently welcomed three children into their home in Reno, NV. Marylyn stayed home to care for and raise their children, while Ronnie worked hard alongside his father in the Cable Television Industry. Marylyn lost her youngest son Timothy (Tiny Tim) when the child passed away at only 11 months old. Together with her young husband Marylyn set about teaching their remaining sons the manners, compassion, hard work, and skills that would help forge both of their eventual careers in the Telecommunications industry. Her surviving children remember her as a driven, intelligent woman who was a patient beloved mother and encouraged them to pursue their goals in life.
Marylyn was a hard-working individual who in addition to raising two boys opened her own successful Beauty Salon business in the late 1970’s in Fremont, CA. She retired from and sold her business in middle 1990’s. In addition to her career in Cosmetology Marylyn had a passion for arts, crafts, sewing, and was an avid doll collector. She hand crafted many beautiful things she loved to share with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and remembered as a beloved mother, an excellent Cosmetologist and a skillful artisan who was loved by many for her wonderful personality.
A funeral is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward CA. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic concerns, only the immediate family will be allowed to attend the funeral. Prior to the funeral flowers and condolences can be sent to Chapel of the Chimes at 32992 Mission Blvd Hayward CA 94544.
