Mary Louise Weldy's Obituary
Mary Louise Hardin Weldy passed away in her sleep on March 28, 2022, at her home in Hayward, California.
Mary was born in Michigan on December 21, 1931 to Buren Jesse Hardin and Leona Rhoda Jacobs Hardin.  Her family has deep roots in Michigan; her  grandfather Theo Jacobs was a Labor  Commissioner and then a Circuit Judge in the state for over twenty years.  She grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated with a teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.  She then worked as "Miss Hardin" in schools in Michigan.
On June 25, 1960, she married William Weldy and they moved to California, where he and his parents had lived since 1947. They initially lived in Oakland and she taught at Maxwell Park Elementary School for several years. After having two sons, she became a full-time homemaker and the family moved to Hayward in 1966.
She was involved with PTA while the boys were in school and she helped students obtain scholarships. She also did some substitute teaching during a couple of teacher strikes in Oakland and Hayward.
Mary loved animals and had many pets over the years. She spent many days volunteering at the Hayward Animal Shelter. She received an award at the Hayward Volunteer Recognition and Awards Dinner for her work in the community.
She is survived by sons David and Douglas, her sister Laura (Hardin) Ciporin, niece Leone Ciporin, nephews Dan Ciporin and Ted Ciporin, as well as several cousins and a lifetime of friends.
A memorial service will be held at her church of many years, St. Martin of Tours, 5294 Concord Blvd., Concord, California, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
