Mary M. Veles' Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary. M. Veles 89 yrs young (known as
“Maymie” by many) born on December 8, 1932 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She resided in Hayward, CA where
she peacefully passed on March 12, 2022 after being on hospice care for 3 ½ months in her home. She
was married to our father, John D. Carreiro, for many years. After his passing, she then married Albert
Veles.
She worked for 26 years at Macy’s and then retired. She loved her job and had an abundance of friends
which she met. She was also a dedicated and an active member of PRUMA in Union City, CA for 30
years.
Mary has 4 children: Sharon Garcia (husband Jack,) Charmaine Ramos (husband Joe,) Debora Caracol,
and Mark Carreiro. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Traci Duenas, Bernadette Vinson, Crystal Jackson,
Anthony Carreiro, Leticia Carreiro, Max Caracol III, Jennifer Martinez and Joseph Ramos. She also has 21
great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Mary was a strong individual, and she definitely spoke her mind! She loved to crochet and watch
movies. Her doggie, Bebe, passed, and now she is reunited with him. Cooking was a passion of hers.
Every Sunday was dinners at her home which we all looked forward to. She would cook so much food,
you would think she was feeding an army, and no one ever went hungry. Some of her specialties were
red rice, potato salad, pasteles, empandillas, bacalao and pomplinies.
She was a fighter and will always be our “Hero and Warrior!” Family was her life, and she would do
anything she could for us.
She will be forever loved and missed by her devoted family, relatives, and friends. R.I.P. Mother,
Grandma, Great Grandma, and Great-Great Grandma. “The angels gain another.”
