GEORGE,Mary Ellen Chambers George, 88 passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2002 in San Leandro, California where she was a long time resident. Beloved wife of Edwin George for 56 years. Devoted mother of Linda Cobet of St. Louis, Missouri and Carolyn Phelps of Sacramento, California and grandmother of David, Nicholas and Amanda Cobet, all of St. Louis, Missouri and Collin Phelps of Sacramento, California. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee and was the loving sister of Ann Frye of Nashville, Tennessee and sister-in-law Edna Tooker of San Francisco, California. She was an aunt to four nephews and nieces and there families. She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Albright. She was devoted to all of her family and to God which was demonstrated by her many church activities. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, and many jobs including homemaker; one of her favorite was working at the San Leandro Public Library.Families and Friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church; 14235 Bancroft Avenue, San Leandro, CA 94577.
