Mary Baptista's Obituary
Born Mary Lourdes Gouveia, she is now joining the love of her life, her husband of over 55 years, Manual Baptista in Heaven. She passed away as she preferred, in her own home with her three children, Manual, William and Helen at her bedside. She was a Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt to many Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews as well. Known by family and friends on the East Coast as Lucy and Mary to most all others. She was born in Massachusetts. She will be remembered for having a warm smile that was infectious and one who put other's needs before her own. Her spirit is a giving one. The love of Family was very important to her and her definition of family extended beyond simply 'blood lines'. Her 'adopted' family members were many. She enjoyed the family get togethers, never one to ever feel there were too many people at any gathering. She knew how to have fun and enjoy herself while bringing joy to those around her. Family members will always be able to hear her singing many Portuguese songs as she enjoyed singing. Listening and singing Church hymns also brought much joy to her and those around her.She was proud to say she was a housewife and home maker who raised her three children. After the passing of her husband, she became a volunteer at Kaiser Hospital. Many times she commented on how much she enjoyed her time there and missed it once her health took her from it.She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Fremont. On Saturday, April 27th services and Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 p.m.. On Monday, April 29th, also at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward her ashes will be laid to rest.A special thank you goes out to the Angels Hospice Organization in Hayward whose staff took care of her as well as taught her children how to take care of her.Her work on Earth is done, her spirit remains forever.Flowers can be sent to the Church or donations can be made to the American Lung Association or Angels Hospice in Hayward.
