Mary Agront's Obituary
Mary Agront, age 91 passed away at home in the presence of family, friends, and the heavenly host, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Mary was born in Waihiku, Maui in 1923 and shortly thereafter adopted into the family of John and Carmen Sallas. She was raised in a family that grew to seven boys, and Mary being the oldest. They were chosen by God as a Special Gift to each other. Mary met Corporal Manuel Agront in Oahu and married on March 18, 1945. They were blessed with 8 children, Edward, Henry, Louis, Thelma, Richard, Rosemary, Jim and Ed-losing Edward at age 7 in 1952, Henry at age 67 in 2014. Manuel passed away in 1982. Mary and Manuel moved to California in 1947 and lived in Cupertino, South San Francisco(San Bruno), Palo Alto and eventually Menlo Park. mary and her son have lived in Hayward for close to 30 years. Mary worked at the Red Rabbit in Redwood City as a sandwich maker for vending machines for about a year. She moved onto Castille’s School in Palo Alto and worked initially as a salad preparer (kitchen) and then in Domestics for about 3 years. After Manuel’s passing Mary worked in Sharon heights as a caretaker over night assistance for about two years. Mary was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, who were the love and joy of her life. Mary loved to cook, dance to Salsa music, and play games, especially Uno and Yahtzee! Mary loved and was so kind to everyone who she ever met and touched the lives of so many people including shopping mall workers, hospital and hospice care staff and many in the Spanish Ranch mobile home in Hayward. She will be missed by many, but forgotten by none!!! Memorial Services are to be held at Chapel of the Chimes Hayward on Valentines Day February 14 between the hours of 5P.-9PM. reception following there also.
