Marshall Raymond Stephens Jr.'s Obituary
Marshall Raymond Stephens, Jr. was born January 29, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Marshall Stephens Sr. and Leonda (Connor) Stephens. He’s the 4th child out of 6th union.
Marshall attended West Shreveport Elementary school until the 4th grade, Central Free Methodist until the 8th grade and graduated from Brooker T Washington State Approved High School for Negroes.
Marshall accepted Christ at an young age and was baptized at Baptist Temple Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA under the direction of Rev. Gile Steel.
Marshall worked as a waiter for several years. He later moved to Dallas, Texas in 1960. In 1962, he relocated to California and worked as a laborer. In 1970, Marshall was employed by San Mateo School District and would stay there until 1993.
Marshall was a lover of Sports, you could find him on any day of the week turning from ESPN to different sports networks. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, tennis, etc. If there was a sporting event on tv, he would watch it! You never had to ask him who his favorite team was. All you had to do was look at the scoreboard and whoever was winning was his favorite that day. The only love that rivaled his love for sports was his love for the blues. He loved BB King, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Rait and Kenny G. He loved the blues so much he even bought an electric guitar. He never took lessons but he would pick and pluck his guitar while listening to his music.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Mateo, CA
He is preceded in death by his parents Marshall Sr and Leoda, his brother Richard and sister Julia. He leaves behind his sister Dorothy Stephens – Kirk, brothers James Stephens Sr. (Cassandra), Luther Stephens Sr. (Julia Etta) and a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins and friends.
