Marlene Lavonne Bowen's Obituary
Marlene LaVonne Bowen April 27, 1935 – Mar. 18, 2012 Resident of San Leandro Marlene LaVonne Bowen passed away on Sunday morning surrounded by her loving family. For nine months she fought with strength and perseverance to overcome brain aneurysm and stroke injury. Marlene was born in Naples, South Dakota, and spent her youth in Vienna, South Dakota. In 1953 she graduated from high school and soon thereafter married her loving husband of 58 years. She resided in San Leandro for 52 years, and enjoyed a circle of dear friendships related to her involvement with Job’s Daughters and her talent for sewing. Marlene enjoyed sewing, travel, time with family, and every aspect of her four wonderful grandsons. Marlene is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Larry. She is loved by her children Julie Bockover; her husband Mike and their children Brody and Brent, and Jan Collinson; her husband Mike and their children Hunter and Donovan. She is also survived by her loving sisters Marlys Gehrke of Watertown, South Dakota and Roneau Brakke of Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Her spirit of unbounded energy, thoughtfulness, and encouragement will be missed by all. Friends and family are invited to Marlene’s funeral service on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 1:30 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, California. In order to support other families affected by brain and heart injury, our family requests that donations be sent to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
