He graduated from Marina High School in San Leandro in 1968, after which he joined the Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic. During his service, he was stationed in various places around the world, such as Japan, Korea, and England. In 1977, he received his Physics degree from Cal State Hayward and then got a job at Lockheed Martin in 1978, where he worked for 32 years. On September 17, 1977, he married Susan Ann Norman. They lived together in Union City raising their four children, Joshua, Paul, Heather, and Scott. Mark greatly valued education, and was always enthusiastic when it concerned his children’s many activities, such as soccer, football, band, and choir. He is survived by his wife, children, grandson Dexter, brother Jerry, sister Shireen, and mother Faith.Mark always used to say that he used his Physics degree more around the house doing projects than at work; he was always building some structure out of wood. He loved working in the garden, mainly tending his many varieties of citrus trees. He also enjoyed taking long walks in nature, either with his wife, dog, or beloved grandson Dexter (Leader One). He loved trains, both watching them and riding them. He and Susie loved to travel…anywhere! Some of their most memorable trips were to Alaska, the Mayan ruins, Galapagos, Costa Rica, Panama Canal, Grand Canyon, Cabo, Belize and Hawaii. He also always enjoyed the natural wonders in his home state of California.A memorial brunch (celebration of life) :Date: Saturday, April 6Time: 10:00amType: Brunch/BreakfastWhere: Nick’s Restaurant100 Rockaway Beach AvenuePacifica, Californiahttp://www.nicksrestaurant.net/homepage.htmlIf you are interested in joining us for Mark’s Celebration of Life, please R.S.V.P. to Susan Glenn at [email protected] Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/262072501345305/The family urges anyone wishing to contribute to his memorial to please consider donating to AIM at Melanoma Foundation (www.aimatmelanoma.org) or the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org).
