Maria Gouveia Miranda's Obituary
Maria Gouveia Miranda September 28, 1918 – January 27, 2017A woman beloved by so many. Maria is survived by her husband, Manuel, of almost 59 years. Devoted mother to Joe (Debra), George (Linda), and Florentine (Elisabeth). Her greatest gifts were her 10 grandchildren and 5 great granddaughters. Avó cared for her siblings and parents, and taught a literacy program in her homeland where she met the love of her life. Together, Avó & Avô immigrated to America in 1968 with their three sons from Camacha, Madeira. She was a talented seamstress at Little Sisters of the Poor in Oakland, CA for over 10 years. Avó lived a selfless life, always putting others before herself. She loved sewing, tending to her garden, hosting family dinners and caring for her grandchildren. Avó taught us what it meant to love unconditionally; a devout Catholic that followed the word of god. Thank you Avó for teaching us to follow our hearts, the value of hard work and to always put family first. A Rosary vigil will be held at 6pm on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA. A memorial mass celebrating Mom’s life at 10am on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Our Lady of the Rosary in Union City, CA followed by burial proceedings at Chapel of the Chimes. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Little Sisters of the Poor San Francisco, CA or The Camacha Parish Church, Rua Maria Ascensão, Camacha.
