Maria F. Barradas' Obituary
Maria Filomena Barradas, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She lived a life marked by love, strength, generosity, and devotion to family.
Maria was born on July 18, 1929, to loving parents Leontina and Manuel Cabral in Urzelina, São Jorge, Azores, Portugal. As the eldest of 10 children, she helped raise her younger siblings and carried that same caring spirit throughout her life. She was known for her generosity and selflessness. She frequently supported loved ones with clothing, food, and other necessities, including sending items to siblings on other islands.
Maria worked as a librarian until her marriage in 1954, after which she devoted herself to being a homemaker. She lovingly raised her two children and created a warm, welcoming home wherever life took her, across Portugal, Angola, and the United States.
Maria enjoyed shopping, especially for clothing and chocolates. She also had a deep love for animals. Over the years, she cared for chickens, rabbits, cats, and a beloved parrot named Jaco. Though she did not especially enjoy cooking, she was known for making delicious meals filled with love.
Maria is survived by her two devoted daughters, Ana (Aninhas) and Lurdes (Kikas), seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many beloved siblings, nephews, and nieces. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her. We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Humberto, who preceded her in death two years ago.
A service will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 10:00 AM at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Burial will follow at 11:45 AM.
