She was born Marguerite Lindensmith in St. Joseph, Missouri. She spent most of her childhood in Kansas, graduating as valedictorian from LaCrosse High School. She moved to California during World War II and worked for the U.S. Army Quarter Masters. After the war she worked for Western Airlines where she met her future husband, Sydney L. Williams, Jr.
They were married on November 11, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Berkeley. Marguerite was a homemaker, raising five children. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, reading, watching her favorite soap operas and following the Oakland A’s. She worked for four years as an Instructional Assistant at Bay Elementary School in San Lorenzo. She enjoyed gathering monthly with the neighborhood women’s group. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers in her garden.
Marguerite was a long time member of St. Joachim’s Church. She was actively involved in St. Joachim’s Women’s Guild. She also enjoyed the St. Joachim’s sewing group making items for charity. She loved visiting the nursing homes in the area as a Eucharistic minister to the sick.
Syd and Marguerite’s retirement was spent in much traveling throughout The United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Marguerite was known by others for her kind and compassionate greetings at Mass and her support for her husband’s volunteer work in the church.
Marguerite leaves behind her children, Philip Williams of San Francisco, Kathleen (Tim) Simonsen of Medford, Oregon, Curtis (Stephanie) Williams of McMinnville, Oregon, Barbara Williams of Pleasanton and Julie Williams of San Lorenzo; eight grandchildren; Andy, Brian, Alyssa, Jason, Margaret, Anthony, Amanda and Nicole, and eight great-grandchildren.
