Margaret Walton's Obituary
Margaret Jane Cooney Walton was born on 04/04/1924 and passed on 09/10/2022. She was the daughter of Aloysius John and Florence Agnes Rees Cooney. Margaret's Bay Area family roots date back to 1846. Margaret grew up in Oakland, CA on Brookdale near Fruitvale Avenue. She graduated from Fremont High School in January 1942. She was the Honored Queen of Job's Daughters Bethel #14 in 1943. She earned an AA from UC Berkeley in 1944, followed by her BSN from UCSF in 1947, and was certified as an RN the same year.
She was a founding member, Ordained Deacon and Elder for Westminster Presbyterian Church (now New Bridges Presbyterian Church) in Hayward. Margaret loved music and sang in numerous school and community choruses. She acted in Old West historical reenactments with the “Legends of the American West”.
After over 20 years as a supervising nurse of outpatient clinics and nurse administrator at Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro, Margaret retired in 1985. She traveled extensively through the 1980s with her dear friend Richard McDonald Noddin. She was a loving sister, Aunt, Mother, Nana and Nana Great. She is survived by an extensive family of loved ones, by blood and by choice. She will be dearly missed.
