Marcelo Gapultos Pascua Jr's Obituary
Marcelo G. Pascua, Jr., age 78, of Union City, California, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 8, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.
Marcelo was born on May 27, 1947, in the town of Camiling Tarlac, Philippines, to Marcelo Pascua Sr. of Barrio Estipona, Pura, Tarlac, and Mena Gapultos Pascua of Camiling, Tarlac. Affectionately nicknamed “Jun” by family and close friends, he attended Camiling Colleges, graduating Valedictorian in Elementary School, and with Highest Honors in High School. It was there that he met his future wife, Ofelia Tantan. He later graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1971, Marcelo and Ofelia immigrated to the United States and settled in San Francisco, where they began building their life together.
Marcelo was married to his beloved wife, Ofelia Pascua, for 56 years. Together, they raised two children, Michelle and Michael. Marcelo was a devoted family man and a kind and caring father who was always present and supportive to his wife and kids.
Marcelo worked as a mechanical engineer with Bechtel Corporation, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and later with the Army Corps of Engineers, where he eventually retired. In addition to his professional career, Marcelo remained actively involved in his community, serving as the inaugural President of the Camilenios of Northern California, an organization that helped bring together members of his hometown for community and a shared sense of home. He also organized the first of three Camiling Colleges High School Alumni Reunions in the United States, bringing together nearly 300 alumni from all across the country to celebrate and reconnect with one another.
Marcelo also enjoyed traveling and took great pleasure in exploring the world with Ofelia, visiting many destinations together over the years.
Marcelo is survived by his loving wife, Ofelia T. Pascua; his children and children-in-law, Michelle and Brad Morgan, and Michael and Shannon Pascua; and his grandchildren, Marcus Morgan, Mark Pascua, Matthias Morgan, and Maggie Pascua. He was preceded in death by his father, Marcelo Pascua, Sr., his mother, Mena Gapultos Pascua, and his son, Mark Pascua.
A vigil will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Mission Room at Chapel of The Chimes Mortuary, located at 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544, starting at 5:00pm.
A funeral will follow on Monday, April 27, 2026 at St. Anne Catholic Church, located at 32223 Cabello St. Union City, CA 94587, starting at 9:30am.
Marcelo will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man who lived with purpose, faith, and a deep commitment to his family. While he will be missed every day, his legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed.
