Marcelino L. Abao's Obituary
Marcelino L. Abao led a very simple life. It began when he was born on April 7, 1926 in Camiguin Island, Philippines. He worked as a government employee and then came to the United States 30 years ago.He was a very humble man and grateful for the little things in life, like giving him a ride to the BART station or for a used baseball hat. In fact, a baseball hat was probably his favorite accessory. He did not like dressing up in suits and preferred comfortable clothes. He always put everyone ahead of himself, not only for his family, but his friends too.Marcelino’s number one priority in his life was always his family and their happiness. Whether it be supporting one of his daughters on the picket lines or being the loudest cheerleader at his grandchildren’s sporting events or sitting down for hours listening to his children’s singing, playing the guitar or piano – he was always there to show his support. He was proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren and was not afraid to show it.Second to his love for family, was his love for music. He played a variety of instruments and had a wonderful singing voice. Not surprisingly, his passion for music has been passed down to all of his musically-inclined children. He also loved any sport and could often be found watching some kind of sporting event on TV. His favorite team was the Golden State Warriors and was elated to see them finally win the championship.Marcelino passed away after some hard fought battles with his health on January 20, 2016.He is survived by his wife, Divina; 4 children: Lani, Hermie, Cecil and Lucas; 9 grandchildren: Marc, Madelene, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Levi, Sarah, Tim, May and Jon; 4 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Ethan, Kevin and Emma; his siblings: Naring and Felisa. Marcelino was preceded in death by his son Merlo; and his siblings Wenceslao, Bob, Priscilo and Inday.“Tatay, mahal na mahal ka namin.”
