Manuel C. "Manny" Garcia's Obituary
Manuel Carmona Garcia ( better known as Manny by family and friends) was born on September 30th, 1925 and passed away at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, California at 9:34-am on Sunday January 22, 2012, after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Lela Mary Garcia; and he is survived by his son, Rickey Garcia, Rickey's two daughters Rickie Lopez, (her husband Joe Lopez) and Randi Garcia as well as Manny's daughter Beverly Lee Garcia Hawkins ,( her husband Buell Hawkins ) and their two sons Brian Hawkins (and wife Melissa Hawkins), Brad Hawkins( and wife Shawna Hawkins.) Manny was blessed with four surviving great- grandsons, Landon Hawkins, Luke Hawkins ,Tyler Hawkins and Wyatt Hawkins plus one great-grand daughter Isabella Lopez. Manny was born in Redwood City and raised in Sunnyvale, California and was a Graduate of St.-Vincent’s and Bellarmine High School prior to the outbreak of WWII. Manny was a career Navy combat veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam and retired after 24 years of service as a Navy Chief. In 1966 the Navy recognized Manny as the top Navy recruiter in the United States; while, he was stationed in Brooklyn, New York. After retiring from the Navy, Manny served as an Auditor for the Marine Cooks and Stewards Union and ended his working career at National Air-motive. In addition to his love for his family, Manny maintained a life- long love affair with the outdoors. His love of fishing and hunting was legendary; and, he actively hunted and fished into his 80's. Services for Manuel Carmona (aka 'Manny') Garcia will be as follows at: The Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Boulevard Hayward, Ca. Viewing ~ Sunday January 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Service ~ Monday January 30 at 10:00 a.m.
