Manuel Leroy Main's Obituary
Manuel Leroy Main Apr. 19, 1921 – Aug. 24, 2010 62 year resident of Castro Valley Manuel passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord, surrounded by family and friends at his bedside. He was born in Flint, Michigan to Roy and Florence Main. Manuel loved his country and was a true patriot throughout his life. He was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII, serving with the 30th bomb group, 11th bomb group in the 42nd squadron in the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge as staff sergeant in 1945. He was a 56 year member of Acacia Masonic Lodge #243 F. &A.M. of Hayward, receiving the Hiram Award for outstanding service. Manuel also was a proud member of the VFW 9601. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Castro Valley. He enjoyed a very challenging career as a Scientific Associate at the Lawrence Livermore Lab, retiring in 1983 after 29 years and looked forward to going to work every day. Manuel had a two thumbs up approach to life and “never knew a stranger.” He loved music and knew all the old tunes by heart. He is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret, of 64 years, loving children Nanci Main of Ocean Park, Washington, David Main (Kim) of Boulder Creek, John Main (Marie) of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Honorary daughter Jimella Lucas of Oysterville, Washington. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sean Main, Landan Main and Ruth Margaret Main. He leaves behind his beloved brother, Raymond Main of Hayward and loving sister, Shirley Nichols of San Leandro. Manuel Main was a kind and generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand. He left the world a better place than what he found it. Services will be held on Sept. 3, 10am at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, (471-3363) with full military honors. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Baywood Court (733-2102) at 1:30 the same day. Donations can be made in his name to Salvation Army and the First Presbyterian Church of Castro Valley. –
