Madley Beatrice Katarungan's Obituary
Madley Beatrice Katarungan passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2017 in San Jose while rehabilitating from Guillain-Barre syndrome. She had recently turned 57.Madley Beatrice Katarungan was born Sheila Marie Sedayao in Wilmington, Delaware in 1960. After living near a variety of US Navy bases scattered about the United States, she and her family settled in Newark, California. Madley graduated from Memorial High School and then attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, majoring in Music. Madley was an adventurous and creative spirit. She lived for long periods in the media center cities of Los Angeles and New York, working on television shows such as the Cosby Show and entertainment companies such as Disney. She travelled throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She was a playwright and a composer and had both plays and music produced, with some of her recent music winning awards. Madley was well known for throwing amazing, creative, and unforgettable parties, culminating in a final masterpiece of a celebration, a Greek-themed 90th birthday party for her mother.After Madley moved back to the Bay Area because of an illness, her faith in God deepened along with a desire to learn more about her Filipino heritage. She became active in the Handmaidens of the Lord organization, and she combined her musical talents with her faith and became the director of the Anima Christi choir at St. Edward’s Church, a position she held until her death.Madley is survived by her parents, Arnaldo and Soledad Sedayao, her brothers Mike and Jeff and their respective wives, Norine and Susan, her nieces Stephanie and Kira, her nephews Chris and Kevin, her cousin Frances, and a host of other cousins and friends. All will miss her deeply.Viewings will be will be held on the evenings of May 17 and 18, from 6 to 9 PM, with a funeral mass at St. Edward’s Church in Newark on May 19 at 10:30. Madley will be buried at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California.
