Macy Lee Tibbs' Obituary
Macy Lee was born January 25, 1933 in Chidestor, Arkansas to the union of Roy and Izetta Hempstead, Macy was the first of her siblings, 5 brothers and sisters. In 1942, Macy moved to Quincy, California, where she accepted Christ at a young age.; completed her education from elementary to high school as one of the first historical African American graduates. Continuing as a scholar Macy advanced to Stockton College in Stockton CA. In 1962, Macy began her career in the medical profession at Samuel Merritt Hospital in Oakland CA until retirement as the Head Medical Administrator after dedicating 30 years of strong work ethics. Macy set the pace with pride of her self-accomplishments as a property owner, her home was always immaculate, and in her leisure time she was passionate about her garden which she would name her flowers. Macy had her daughter Sandra play the sounds of Gospel music in their home every day until her last days. Macy also enjoyed listening to the Blues, once in a while you could catch Macy tapping to the beat and at her family reunions or holidays you could catch her doing a step or two to her favorite “The Old Town Blues”. Macy was preceded in death and received in love by both parents Roy and Izetta Hempstead; her siblings Cleophus Hempstead, Mamie Fuller and Roy Hempstead Jr. Macy leaves to cherish her memories two Daughters: Cynthia Tibbs Butler of Pittsburg CA., and Sandra Tibbs of Oakland CA.; two Granddaughters: Nicole Darensburg and Hasena Butler. Four Great Grand Children: Keionte, Amilleon, Tavion and Anesah. One Sister Doris Skeaton of Fresno CA. Former Husband & Best Friend Elbert “Joe” Tibbs of Union City CA and a host of Family Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.
