Life HistoryLydia Lucille Carter (Woodard) (affectionately known by family as “Mommie”) was born in Monroe, La., January 13, 1928 to Casper & Lydia Woodard (Currie) she was the only child of the union. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was educated at Monroe Colored High in Monroe, La.In 1951 Lydia moved to California where she met and married Nathan L. Carter, Jr. in 1953 and from their union their children; Jeanetta (Davenport), Michael, Mark, and Michelle.Lydia was primarily a homemaker and provided great support to her husband while he served in the military and later in his business ventures. Lydia also worked outside the home on occasion. She loved God, her husband, and her children. Her greatest satisfaction was found in serving, loving, and teaching her children and others, and the greatest legacy she left was the love she taught them to feel and show to one another.Lydia is preceded in death by her parents Casper & Lydia Woodard and her husband of 65 years Nathan L. Carter.She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Jeanetta (Bernard), Michelle (Michael) and sons, Michael and Mark (Diedre). Twelve grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 God Daughters, 2 God Sons, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of lifetime friends that became family.Rather than mourn her death she wanted her family and friends to celebrate her life. She requested a lively get together after her service where people could enjoy her favorite foods, fill the room with laughter, and remember all the happy times she shared with those she loved.
