Lucy Romo Infante's Obituary
Lucy Romo Infante, longtime resident of San Lorenzo, California, passed away on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley from complications from pneumonia after battling Covid. She was 102.
Lucy was born Lucy Romo Hernandez on November 22, 1920 in Illinois to parents Maria and Antonio Hernandez. Her early childhood was spent in Madera, California in a loving family of 10 brothers and sisters. In her early years, Lucy worked alongside her brothers and sisters as an agricultural worker in Madera and surrounding San Joaquin Valley. Later, she moved to Hayward, California to work at the Hunt’s Foods cannery. It was here in Hayward, California where she would eventually meet the love of her life and beloved husband of 54 years, Vicente “Vince” Infante. They married in 1952 and later settled in San Lorenzo, California where they raised their three children.
Lucy had several other professions throughout her life, including working in restaurants and later in retail, where she worked for over 20 years. Her co-workers and supervisors fondly remembered how she loved helping customers and the energy she brought to the workplace, always greeting customers with her bright smile and working circles around all of her much younger coworkers. Lucy finally retired in 2005 at the age of 84 to care for her husband before his passing in 2006.
Some of her greatest joy came from her three children and the memories created in their family home, and on road trips to visit family back in Madera. Lucy was also very active in the lives of her grandchildren and made each of them feel special, often taking them on shopping trips, church camping trips, and spoiling them in ways only a grandmother could. From the time and care she would put into making a pot of her world famous tamales, to how she would light up and greet everyone with her warm embrace on arrival, she left no questions about how much she loved her family and how she loved spending time with them. Lucy loved to play games with her family at holiday gatherings, and her family will always remember her infectious laugh during all of the excitement. She remembered fondly her most recent trip to Hawaii for her granddaughter’s wedding, taking in the beauty of her dream destination, and the time spent with her loving family. She also loved flowers and would often sit and marvel at the beauty of the bouquets her friends or family would bring her.
Lucy loved the Lord above all things. Friends and family remember her dedication to the Lord and his work, and she and Vince regularly opened their home for potlucks and fellowship to the other members of their church congregation, where they made some of their dearest lifelong friends. Daily she would spend time reading her bible and praying for friends and family, leading a life of meaningful love and service to others, as modeled by her savior Jesus Christ. On December 17th, 2022 Lucy finally got her wish to be in the presence of the Lord and was reunited with her husband Vince.
She is survived by her three sisters and brother, Deloris, Mary, Louise, and Raymond, along with her three children, Richard, Larry, and Gloria, and her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
