Luciel "Ludy" Pounds' Obituary
Luciel Pounds was born on May 29, 1930 in Tallulah, Louisiana. Luciel was the youngest of six children born to Joyce and Isaac Sanders. Ludy, as she was lovingly called by those who knew her, received her formal education in Tallulah, Louisiana. She also gained work ethic and experience from working with her father on the family farm. The Sanders family owned a general store in Tallulah, Louisiana, and Ludy worked at the family store. Seeking a better life for themselves, they sold the general store business and used the money to make the move to California in 1952. In 1971, Luciel married Aubrey Pounds. Luciel found work as a domestic care giver and remained in that line of employment for over 40 years until her retirement. After entering the retired life, some of her favorite things were planning fishing trips. Ludy always made sure everyone was up bright and early and loading cars, so the long ride to Pittsburg, California, could by made successfully. She loved the slot machines at Cache Creek Casino. Upon Luciel’s departure from this life, she is now reunited with her parents; brother Isaac (Jack) Sanders Jr., sisters, Alma (Flo) Bethea, Elizabeth (Nen) Telphy, Augustine (Bay) Levingston, and Bernice (Burn) Sanders; granddaughter Ifeoma Iweka, and great-granddaughter Symone Alicia Duncan. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, two sons, Bobby (Diane) Ronnell Sanders, and David (Edwina) Guy Pounds; two daughters, Joann McDowell, and Margaret Silket-Iweka; son-in-law, Tyrone Amour. The grandchildren are Sharine Sanders, Ronnell Troy Sanders, Bobby Ronnell Sanders Jr., Niaressa Silket-Iweka, Shanita Jones, Chimoa Iweka, Philicia McDowell, Alexsis McDowell, Jessica Amour, Daizah Pounds, David Pounds Jr., Myah Amour, and Olivia Amour. There are also eleven great-grandchildren that will carry on the legacy of Luciel “Ludy” Pounds. There is also a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Although she is gone from us physically, she will never be forgotten.
