Lowell Gearhart's Obituary
Lowell Gearhart Aug 6, 1932-Oct 18, 2009 Resident of Lodi Lowell Gearhart, 77, passed away in Hayward, on Sunday, October 18, after a long battle with diabetes. Lowell was born August 6, 1932, in Chicago, IL, the second of three sons of Frank and Alma Lang Gearhart. He and his wife Lorraine were married and moved to the Bay Area in 1955, where they resided until retiring to the San Joaquin Delta in 1988, and later to Lodi in 1993. Lowell retired from Qantel in Hayward with a long career in electronics. He served with honor in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War. Lowell was a member of St. Paul Lutheran in Lodi, the National Camping Travelers, a Director of the San Joaquin Historical Society, and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was an adult member of the Boy Scouts for many years, achieving the highest recognition given to volunteers. After moving to Lodi, Lowell was very active with the “Monday Tractor Mechanics” at the San Joaquin Museum at Micke Grove Park, where he managed several major projects. Lowell was predeceased by Lorraine, his wife of 51 years, and is survived by his children Denise (Dan) Pagan of Hayward, Michael Gearhart of Escalon, and Debbie (Frank) DeFreitas of San Leandro. Lowell was a loving Grandpa to his nine grandchildren, Michael, Chris, Justin, Jessica, Kyle, Gabe, Brian, Amie and Taylor. Lowell is also survived by his two brothers, Roger (Kathleen) of Woodbridge and Donald of Omaha, NE as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, October 21 from 5 to 8:30 PM and the funeral on Thursday, October 22 at 10 AM followed by the interment at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA.
