Hon Fay Louie's Obituary
Hon Fay Louie improved people’s lives across the globe, especially those in his birth country and in his adopted homeland. He passed away unexpectedly April 4, 2017, at the age of 81.Fay, as he was known, was born to parents Hoy Bew and Mar Poy Yee Louie in the Doo Tao village of Zhongshan, China. In 1950, the family moved to Victoria, British Columbia.Fay met Marian Yee while visiting family in San Jose. He fell in love and moved to California. The couple married in 1960 and, months later, purchased New City Market in the Niles district of Fremont. In 1970, Fay switched his focus to real estate. He obtained his sales license and went to work for Don Hegen in Niles and then for Gygax Realtors in Newark, where he broke sales records.After earning a broker’s license, he struck out on his own with Blue Ribbon Realty, located next to the grocery store. In the 1990s, Fay became the sales manager at RE/MAX Executive in Warm Springs. He and Marian later opened RE/MAX Active in the Decoto area, which he owned and operated until this January. At its height, the office had 70 employees. Fay was very proud of his business and the success of his agents.Fay became more active in the Bay Area Chinese community after Marian passed away in 2000. He was a founder of the Zhong Shan Doo Tao Association in Oakland, serving as the president until his passing.Fay and his brothers helped to establish a medical clinic in their home village in 2006. He wanted to share his success with those who needed assistance, particularly in China. Whether it was disaster relief or medical care, Fay was ready to do what he could. Many groups around the United States also benefited from his generosity.Fay was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Marian, and older sister Chee Fong Chang. He is survived by his children, Jenny (Verne) of Fremont, Wayland (Theresa) of Bakersfield, and Lynn of Ashland, Ore.; his grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, and Danny; his siblings, Bing (Jean) of Fremont, Dora (Joe) of Los Gatos, Henry (Ann) of Victoria, B.C., Carol (Leland) of Clovis, and Ida of Victoria; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.The family is grateful for the companionship that Fay found the past 10 years with Kam Au and her children, Ronnie (Rosa), Rick, Charlene (Chad), all of Hayward, and Christina (Stanley) of Castro Valley, and their families.He will be greatly missed.A private burial has been held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Zhong Shan Doo Tao Association in lieu of flowers.
