Linda Patterson's Obituary
On December 26, 1949, Linda Lennore Patterson was born to Leonard and Louise Oliver in St. Paul, Minnesota. By age 8 her family relocated to San Bernardino, California. Linda graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1967. In the early ‘70s she settled into the San Francisco Bay Area, working at Southern Pacific Railroad as a telephone operator before moving to the payroll department. In 1982 she married Marvin Patterson, an electronics mechanic working at the Alameda Naval Base. By 1986 she had realized her dream to have a career in the field of Real Estate and worked as a Realtor for the next 30 years, winning numerous awards and accolades. She thoroughly enjoyed helping families achieve the American Dream of home ownership. They weren’t just clients. They were her friends.Linda was a woman who always put her family first. She was loving, kind and unselfish in every way. She was always smiling. Linda cared about the community and loved to give back. She volunteered at a battered woman’s shelter for many years and worked at a group home where she fostered relationships with many young girls. She also enjoyed movies, art, traveling and piecing together her family history.After being diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer (and given 6 months to live) in March 2016, she battled it for 18 months before succumbing to the illness on September 4, 2017. She is preceded in death by an older brother, James Vassar. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Marvin Patterson, daughters Rhonda Palmer and Andrea “Nicci” Jones, Goddaughter Shinteya Logan and husband Aaron Logan, three stepdaughters, Tracey Jones and husband Vercy Jones, Carla Dennis and husband Ray Dennis, Nicole Patterson, stepson Marvin Love and 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother Hunter Vassar, Sr., younger sister Joanne Foy and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
