Linda Su Lan Dezell's Obituary
Linda Su Lan Dezell June 10, 1947 – Aug 1, 2015 Resident of Union CityLinda Su Lan Dezell, 68, passed away peacefully at home on August 1 after a brief illness. Linda was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 10, 1947 to Samuel and Gladys Pung and moved to the Bay Area with her family at the age of 1. She has been a resident of Union City for the past 42 years. After graduation from South San Francisco High School in 1965, Linda completed beauty school and went on to a hairdressing career that spanned more than 40 years. Her first job, at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco, often found her styling hair for visiting celebrities of the day. She later worked for more than 20 years at Crestwood Convalescent Hospital in Fremont, keeping the residents well groomed, which she found very rewarding. Her reluctance to fly over water kept her bound to the mainland until August of 2007, when she was persuaded to go to Hawaii with the family. She immediately fell in love with the Islands and returned six more times between 2008 and 2012, visiting nearly all of the islands. She said it felt like going home each time she visited and always looked forward to visiting with family while there. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim; her children: Kenneth Dezell and Sheri Dezell and grandchildren: Alyssa Dezell and Sarah Vegas; her brother, Timothy Pung and his wife, Karen and sister, Lynne Corona and her husband, Juan; nieces: Tiffany and Krystal Pung; nephews: Eric and Everette Henderson; and many close cousins, including Elizabeth Hearne, Elaine Jorgensen, Emil Nakapaahu, Einar (Pete) Nakapaahu, Janet Loh, Diana Chong, Melissa Pang-Nikaido, and Colleen Fairbairn as well as many dear friends, especially Ann Daniels and Thelma Gonzalves. More than anything else in life, Linda loved being with her family and friends, many of whom were able to visit with her in her last days. Their visits gave her great joy and comfort at such a difficult time and she often expressed just how much it meant to see everyone. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15 at 1:00 pm in the Mission Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544, followed by a reception at Sorensdale Recreation Center, 275 Goodwin St., Hayward. Donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
