Lillian Irene Bryggman's Obituary
Lillian Irene Bryggman ' longtime Bay Area piano teacher and youth worker, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006 atSummitHospital inOakland after a prolonged illness. She was 89. She was born in Oakland and lived there all her life.She was a promising young classical pianist who began to teach young people while still in her teens.Being of Swedish descent, she became active in many Swedish cultural groups especially in the Vasa Order of America, an organization of Swedish people in the . She became well known for her work with the children of Vasa members. Starting in 1949 until 2001, she helped organize many youth groups and clubs. She held the position of Superintendent of Youth Clubs off and on for the next fifty years. In 1970, she was awarded the Royal Order of Vasa, First Class by the King of Sweden for her outstanding contributions.She was predeceased in 1971 by her husband of 33 years Arvid Bryggman who was also very active in Swedish cultural organizations and The Vasa Order.
