Ligaya Quijano's Obituary
Ligaya Jocson Quijano, 73, of Hayward, passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2016 in her home in Hayward.Visitation will be 5:30-9pm Sunday, October 23 at Chapel of the Chimes at the Reflection Chapel in Hayward.Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Monday, October 24 at All Saints Church with Fr. Michael Castori, officiating. Burial and arrangements will follow at the Chapel of the Chimes.Ligaya Zamboanga Jocson was born April 5th 1943 weighing 6 lbs in the city of Zumarraga within the province of Samar in the Philippines to Ricardo Soledad Jocson and Carmen Maga Zamboanga.She was the 1st child of 13 siblings and went by the name Ate Ligaya.She graduated college from the Philippine Women’s University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry in 1961. Immediately upon graduating she worked as a chemist at Floro Mills, a textile company, in Pasig, Philippines.Ligaya came to the United States on April 3, 1965 and was introduced to Carl Quijano shortly upon her arrival. They courted for two months and got married on June 27 1965 at St. Anthony’s Church in Oakland California. Her first occupation was a chemist at Clorox Company in Oakland. In 1967, she graduated from Laney College. In 1969, she entered into a new profession as a medical technologist at Vesper Memorial hospital in San Leandro and Kaiser Permanente in Hayward.Their first born, Brian, was born in 1971 and they moved to Hayward, California and eight years later, in 1979, they had their 2nd child, Marisa.Ligaya’s life goals and dreams were to have her 12 brothers and sisters move from the Philippines to California. During the course of 7 years (1965-1972), she and Carl made that dream become a reality. Her family was her soul, her kids her future, and her life was dedicated to sacrifice and service.She was a devoted wife of 51 years, a loving mother and employee to Kaiser Permanente for 44 years: a woman who spent most of her life time caring, loving, and sacrificing herself for the good of others.Planting orchids and bonsais, collecting precious jewelry and gem stones, and constantly learning a new opportunity to grow her mind and build a business were her hobbies.She is survived by her husband, Carl Quijano, son, Brian Quijano, daughter, Marisa Peden, son in law Taiga Peden, rambunctious grandson, Kai and her devout 12 siblings and their spouses.Pall Bearers will be Brian Quijano, Ricardo Jocson Jr, Francisco Jocson, Reynaldo Jocson, Robert Jocson, and Ferdinand Jocson.Flower donations can be delivered to Chapel of the Chimes by Sunday, October 23, 2016
