Lester H. Rowe's Obituary
Lester H. Rowe Feb 18, 1918-Dec 27,2009 Resident of Fremont In a life spanning almost 92 years, Les faced many exciting and challenging times. He was born in Walla Walla, WA. After completing his early education, the family moved to Oakland, CA where he graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of ’36. After attending Heald’s Business College (Oakland), he began his long career with PG&E accounting. This was followed by various jobs including hairdressing, refinery and shipyard work, Air Force technical support, and service technician for Friden Calculator Co. While at Friden, he pursued many home study courses in electronics, writing, and mathematics to advance to technical writer and product instructor. Before retiring in 1985, he was employed as a technical writer for Singer-Friden, KLA and Spectra Physics in Sunnyvale CA. In a marriage spanning 56 years, Les and his wife, the late Rosalie Bostrom, lived in many homes where they together enjoyed remodeling and gardening. They shared a love of camping along the California coast and in the Sierras. Les enjoyed photography and electronics and also built his own sail boat and canoe. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Les was predeceased by his parents, Grace (Martin) and Lawrence Rowe, a brother, Curtis Rowe, and his companion of 11 years, Sally Hill of Dublin,CA. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, a sister, Norma Larson of Castro Valley, CA; a son, Jeffrey Rowe and his wife Ute of San Ramon CA and two daughters, Jennifer Scott and husband John of Concord, CA and Janet Binger and husband Terry of McMinville, OR. He also leaves grandsons Mike Binger of Mcminville, OR and Paul Binger and his wife Laura and great-grandchildren Layla and Harley Binger of Hillsboro, OR. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday January 15, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Reflection Chapel of Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544.
