Lester Cuff's Obituary
Lester H. CuffDecember 6, 1927 – April 18, 2016Lester H. Cuff passed away in his home peacefully. Lester was born on December 6, 1927 in Oakland, California to Lillian and Harry Cuff. Lester and his wife May were married for 57 years and resided in San Lorenzo. They both attended Frick Junior High School and Fremont High School in Oakland together. Their first date was their 10 year high school reunion. Lester served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He was very proud to have received a Letter of Commendation from his Commanding Officer on December 8, 1955. He received this honor upon conclusion of Exercise SAGE BRUSH conducted at Fort Polk, Louisianna for exceptional diligence in the performance of duties as Radio Repairman. Lester graduated from Caterpillar Tractor Company as a Journeyman Machinist in 1959. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 36 years and Nummi for 8 years.Lester was a railroad enthusiast and was active with the Golden Gate Live Steamers. He had a great sense of humor and was always telling jokes and stories.Lester was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as a friend to many. He will be dearly missed. Lester is survived by his wife May, daughters Marjory Barras of Livermore, CA and Carolyn Stokes of Maple Valley, Washington, son-in-law’s Carlos Barras and Mark Stokes, grandchildren Danny, Christina, & Alexander. He is survived by his sister June C. Smith, and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Monday April 25 from 5-9 pm and a celebration of life service will be Tuesday April 26 at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
