Leo Schreier's Obituary
Leo Schreier was born August 21, 1940 in Ostrowo, Germany (now part of Poland) during WWII to Henry Schreier and Olga Zaplatinsky. The couple immigrated to the US in 1952 with their three children—Leo, Richard, and Rosemarie, entering through New Orleans. The young family soon found themselves in San Francisco where Leo lived until joining the Air Force in the late 50’s. Leo began his career with United Airlines after leaving the Air Force and was with them until he retired in 2002 due to health problems. He enjoyed performing as a clown in his younger days, and playing the accordion and harmonica till the end when it became too difficult. Leo was tough, but was overtaken by his failing liver and kidneys, further complicated by diabetes and other health issues. He was able to remain in his home with family until suffering cardiac arrest Sunday morning August 9, 2015. He was taken by ambulance to St. Rose Hospital in Hayward where he passed away later that day.Leo is survived by his wife Rae, step-daughter Jenny, his sister Rosemarie Matheny, brothers Richard and Gary, and children David Lane, Melisa Schreier, Sean Schreier, Marcus and Jason Schreier.
