Lee "Jane" (Gibbs) Nunes' Obituary
Lee “Jane” (Gibbs) Nunes passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on January 30th, 2026, surrounded by some of the people she loved the most, at her home in Newark, California.
Jane was born on December 27th, 1961, in Oakland, California to Emmett Lee and Elizabeth Louise Gibbs. She was raised in Newark where she attended Memorial High School and later met the love of her life, Larry Lee Nunes. Jane and Larry were married on April 25th, 1981, and together built a life together, rooted in love and family, in Newark. In 1984, they welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Lee, who was the pride and joy of Jane’s life.
Jane took great pride in her family, her marriage of more than 40 years, her friendships, and her career, where she was dedicated and hardworking for over 30 years. Her heart was always the fullest when she was surrounded by those she loved.
Jane had a deep passion for her family and friends and a lifelong love for music of all genres. She was known for her infectious smile, her unforgettable laugh, her warmth, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. If you knew Jane—and Larry—you knew their home was always open, filled with love, laughter, music, and genuine hospitality.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Elaine Nunes, her brothers-in-law John Wusstig and Randy Lowe, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Larry Nunes; her daughter, Jennifer Nunes-Horner, and son-in-law James Horner; her cherished granddaughter Madison Lee Horner; her sister, Karen Wusstig; nephew Johnny Wusstig (Nikole); her sister-in-law Shannon Lowe; her brothers-in-law Michael Nunes and Raymond Nunes; her great-nieces and nephews Gage Wusstig, Teresa Crain, Patrick Nunes (Melissa), Christopher Nunes, Robyn Lowe, and John Lowe (Ashley); as well as many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman. Jane’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
