Lawrence (Larry) Richard BotelhoAugust 8, 1933-November 22, 2017Dublin, CA Resident of Dublin since 1995, age 84. Born in Oakland, California to Manuel and Gloria (Fontes) Botelho, he passed away with his loving family around him at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek on November 22 at 10:15 p.m. He loved his family and they all loved him.In 1946, his parents and siblings moved to Pleasanton to a mini-ranch so they could have horses. Larry and Evelyn started their family in Hayward, Ca. in 1955, and in 1974 he and Evelyn moved to Castro Valley. After retirement they moved to Dublin to be near their daughter and family.Larry is survived by his wife Evelyn of 62 years, daughter Sharon Gloria Leach (Gloria after Larry’s Mom Gloria), Son-in-Law Doug Leach, of San Ramon, Grandson Marc (Mirela) Leach of Union City, Grandson Andrew (Nicole) Leach of Oakley CA, Great Granddaughter Ella Leach and Great Grandson Holden Lawrence Leach (Lawrence named after his Papa), Oakley, sister Irene (Rene) Katinsky of Pleasanton, and Nephew Bill Souza of Livermore, nieces Shirley Martin of Pleasanton, Darlene Mansfield of Lodi, CA., Barbara Ferreira of Fremont, CA., Judy Mayhue of Trenton, N.J., Debbie Dobbel of Kentucky, Linda DeCoito of Pleasanton, CA., and numerous Great nieces and nephews who all loved him very much. He also had a Goddaughter Lucinda Whitely of Modesto, California. Larry was the youngest of seven. Brother Wally, Sisters Evelyn Souza, Dorothy Stewart, Bernice Mendonca, Geraldine Dobbel all preceded him in death.Larry joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean conflict. After discharge he went to work as a Land Surveyor for an Engineering Company, and because he suffered from Poison Oak decided to join the Teamsters, Local 70. He loved it and stayed with it until he retired in 1996.He enjoyed his retirement, and enjoyed working in his yard and puttering around the house. He became involved in playing Bocce Ball which he really enjoyed and was very good at it, and he was on a “winning team” in tournaments. He also enjoyed playing “Texas Hold’em” at the Senior Center.A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on December 14 at 4:30 pm at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. A reception will also be held in a Reception Room at the Chapel of the Chimes after the Memorial. All of his friends are welcome to attend.In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity may be made.
