Larry Jerome Calhoun's Obituary
Larry “Rock” Calhoun was born in Bemidji MN and died on 8/27/23 in Union City. He is preceded in death by Birth father, Larry, mother Dolores and adoptive father Tom Calhoun. He leaves behind sister Kate Qualley, Tomi (Kathy) and brother Jim (Carol). Nieces Patty Russell, Jeanne Enos (Greg) and nephew Dustin (Lara). Rock loved being a great uncle to TJ, Katherine, Suzanne Enos, Grace and Clara Calhoun.
In 1958 Rock joined the Air Force and was stationed in Turkey, Japan and Alaska. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He then went to San Jose State College and received a BA degree in Accounting. He later went to La Salle University and received a PHD in Law. He was a member of Mensa. Rock worked for the GAO for his entire career. He said his greatest accomplishment was to retire at 54.
During his retirement Rock, climbed the hills of the East Bay, and explored the many trails in the Bay Area. He was known to carry dog treats in case there was a chance encounter. Rock was a sharp shooter in the Air Force and enjoyed shooting once he retired. He frequented the shooting ranges in the East Bay until they were closed down.
A memorial service will be held at Quarry Lakes on October 29. More information to follow.
