Kong Lee's Obituary
Kong Lee was born in Guangdong, China on July 5, 1933. He passed away peacefully in his home in Union City on January 11, 2021 at age 87. He was the oldest son of Lee Cheong and Cheung Ka Mui with two sisters and two brothers. Kong recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Mariana, and together they had three children and five grandchildren.
Kong grew up in Hong Kong and moved to California in 1973 where he raised his loving family. He worked for many years and retired from the graphics department at Pacific Bell in 1992. After retirement, his hobbies and talents flourished. He picked up Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, and continued exploring his passion for photography. His art has been displayed throughout the Bay Area and parts of China. Kong Lee became a published illustrator with the book My Mom is a Dragon: And My Dad is a Boar in 2005 and again with Hiss! Pop! Boom! in 2006.
He was a gentle and kind person who had many friends. He was never short of compassion or a good meal, and inspired many people he knew. He had friends to wine and dine with, friends to walk with, friends to take photos with, friends to travel with, and friends to paint with. Kong shared a passion for basketball with his son, and together they attended many Golden State Warriors games. He displayed his love of the Warriors in his home with a large collection of bobbleheads.
He is remembered by his wife, Mariana, his three children, Eddie, Annie, and Connie, and his five grandchildren, Josette, Kaitlin, Justin, Kylie, and Megan.
The family has chosen the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco for those who would like to donate since they are involved in keeping traditional forms of Chinese art alive. The website can be found at: https://www.cccsf.us/
