KOK-LIANG WOO's Obituary
After a good and meaningful life of 93 years, K.L. passed on July 11, 2004.At his side were his loving wife of 64 years Lily, his son Andy and Ben and their wives, Kitty and Cynthia when he found peace and tranquility. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Li of Boston, Mass.Although a native of Shanghai, China he was of strong Cantonese heritage. K.L. was a man of compassion, a true gentleman, and a loving father. Following graduating from St. John’s College of Shanghai he went on to the Wharton School of Finance where he earned his M.A. in Business. War was breaking out and K.L. found himself back in Shanghai pursuing the family business.Soon he met Lily and a formal courtship led to their marriage in 1940. Andy and Benny came along while the war raged on but there were more ominous winds of politcal change to come. The whole family relocated to America where they eventually settled in Piedmont. K.L. was engaged in real estate, restaurants and eventually banking with the Bank of Trade and Citicorp Savings. His Affiliations include Shiners, Rotary, Asian Art Commission and numerous service organizations of San Francisco’s Chinatown.A memorial service will be held at 10:30am at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave. Oakland. In lieu of flowers, the suggests donations to be made to the Alta Bates Summit Foundation/ICU Fund, 2450 Ashby Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705 in memory of K.L. Woo
