Justiniano Barrera's Obituary
Justiniano Fernandez Barrera 09/05/1926 – 05/11/2011 Resident of Fremont, CA Born September 5, 1926, in Cavite City, Philippines. Adoring husband, strong brother, and devoted father, grandfather, and uncle, he was known as “Justin” and “Naning”. Twenty-year veteran of the US Navy, skilled craftsman, avid world traveler, active golfer and swimmer, and passionate sports fan. Proud supporter of Bay Area Filipino-American veterans community. Enlisted in US Navy as a serviceman in 1953; initially stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, he retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer from the Naval service in Alameda, California, 1973 after two decades of ‘smooth sailing', including carrier deployment to Vietnam. He worked 15 more years as a civilian mechanic and welder for NARF Alameda. Well-loved by his family for his generosity and support in their educational endeavors, professional pursuits, and personal successes, and well-remembered for his good humor, disciplined lifestyle, tremendous cuisine, and extremely kind and warm heart. Passed away May 11, 2011, in Fremont, California. Proudly survived by his loving wife of 52 years, their two sons, and six grandchildren, all of whom are his deepest pride and joy. Viewing and rosary service on Thu., May 19, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, Calif. Catholic funeral Mass on Friday, May 20, at 10 am at St. Anne’s Church in Union City to be followed by interment services at Chapel of the Chimes at 11:30 am.
