June Yvonne Supinger's Obituary
Forever in our hearts, June Yvonne Atkin Supinger, 85, returned to her heavenly home on
December 3rd, 2022 after bravely living with breathing complications from COPD. Yvonne was
born May 7, 1937 weighing 4 1/2 lbs. She would say that she could fit in a shoe box. Born in
Bisbee, Arizona to Orville Robert Atkin and Nina Goodman Atkin, Yvonne is the second of five
girls.
Yvonne has wonderful memories of her childhood with her parents and sisters when they lived
in Oakland, and then to their home in Hayward, California. She enjoyed school and received
A+++ by her teachers on her work. She had beautiful penmanship. She attended Hayward
High School and met her sweetheart, Joseph Alexander Supinger when she was a sophomore.
Joe was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May of 1954
and they were married a year later on June 20, 1955 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple when Yvonne
was 18.
They first rented an apartment, then purchased their home in Hayward, California where they
resided in the Hayward 2nd Ward for 27 years and then a 2 1/2-year experience in Beulah,
North Dakota related to Joe’s work. They then moved to their home in the Hayward First Ward
area in 1985 where they resided for 33 years til moving to Shellece and Gerritt’s home for 2 1/2
years where they could receive more care (where Joe passed away in 2018) and then Yvonne
to Adam and Susan’s home for 2+ years when her earthly journey came to an end.
Yvonne enjoyed being a mother and being home with her children, but would occasionally take
a job working outside the home to help out financially. Some of them include General Metals in
Oakland, Kaiser Engineers in Oakland (where Joe worked), later - Kaiser Aluminum for about
15 years (where she met actor James Garner in the elevator who offered to carry the rolls of
aluminum foil she was holding), then Pacific Coast Warehouse for 10 years in Union City.
Yvonne was an excellent secretary, stenographer, typist at 100wpm and office assistant.
Yvonne enjoyed painting in her earlier years and created a framed piece of art that filled a wall
in their home. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts with Joe and the children to sell at
boutiques. Yvonne loved most spending time with her family visiting and playing games. Try
as they might, they rarely got the best of her at Rummikub, because she almost always wins.
Yvonne is a caring, selfless and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She served faithfully in
many callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has a deep
testimony of the Savior. Yvonne and Joe enjoyed visiting members of the ward together and
lived remarkable lives of selfless service. They never missed an opportunity to share the gospel
with others. They served two missions together - a full time church office mission to Kingston,
Jamaica for 23 months and then with the Institute Young Single Adults in their area. Even after
Joe’s passing, Yvonne continued to give out ‘pass along’ cards and copies of the Book of
Mormon to whomever she could.
When asked about her greatest strengths, Yvonne says, “I feel my greatest strength may be
that I can make someone feel at ease and put a little happiness into their life. A smile goes a
long way. ” Yvonne is a beautiful person inside and out, is loved by old and young and will be
truly missed by all who know her. Yvonne regretfully leaves her loved ones here, but we know
she is enjoying a glorious reunion with Joe and her loved ones there.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Supinger, her parents, her sisters and
their spouses Nina Joanne Hollingsworth Johnson (Euil, Calvin), Barbara Kay Black (Paul),
brother-in-law Michael D. Jones and daughter-in-love Carol Jean Supinger.
She is survived by her sisters Nedra Marleen Jones, Jill Alberta Tingley (Steve) as well as her
children Terry Doxey (Kimball), Craig Supinger, David Supinger (Carrie), Adam Supinger
(Susan), Shellece Heatherly (Gerritt), Brian Supinger (Angie), Spencer Supinger (Kate) along
with 25 grandchildren and their spouses, 27 great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and
their families and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 17th at the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints Highland Chapel at 2000 Highland Blvd, Hayward, California 94542
where there will be a Family Visitation Saturday morning 9:30am to 10:15am and Friends and
Family Visitation 10:15am to just before 11:00am prior to services. She will be interned at
Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Hayward.
Thank you to Kaiser Modesto Hospital and Community Hospice of Modesto for your thoughtful
and professional treatment while she was under your care.
