Josephine George's Obituary
Josephine Torquemada George passed away peacefully in her sleep July 19th 2019. She was born on 12/6/1921 on 14th St. in Decoto, to Paula Sanchez Valencia and Antonio Torquemada. Josie was the 4th child out of 7. She attended Decoto School and later night school where she received her junior high diploma. She wanted to go to high school but the family needed her to work picking peas and working in the cannery. Later, Josie would attend night school to try to finish her educationIn 1944 she met her future husband, Clarence George; they were married January 27th 1946. During this time, Josie worked in the Ship yards as a “Rosie the Riveter”. Soon after, Clarence was deployed to Korea. Upon his return, they lived on 4th st and began their family, later they built a home on Whipple RoadJosie is survived by her family, John George (Cathy), Paula G. Kohn (Jerry), Alex Kohn (her grandson) her 102 year old Sister Antenett Diaz, as well as several nieces, nephews and several godchildren.Josie is preceded in death by her parents, Paula and Antonio Torquemada, along with her brothers and sisters, Theresa Martin, Tony Torquemada, Mary Torquemada, Harold Torquemada and John Torquemada.Josie will be remembered by her big heart, infectious laugh and smile as well as her love for every friend and family member that touched her lifeServices will be held on August 30th at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA. at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Josie’s name to a donation of your choice or to Alzheimer’s and Dementia association.
