Joseph N. Gonsalves' Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Joseph Nobrega Gonsalves went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 18, 2024. Joe was a devoted husband to Ligia, loving father to Anthony, Michael & Shane and beloved Vovô to his five grandchildren Dorianna, Joseph, Lexi, Alyssa & Anabella. He is survived by his siblings Mary, Vera, Firmino, John and Carmen.
Joe’s favorite thing to do was go camping with his son Michael & his family and also with his sister Vera. He loved to drive his motorhome and relax by a BBQ. He religiously said the rosary in Portuguese every evening at 6pm. He loved to sit in his garage, while listening to Portuguese radio and saying hello to all his friends in the neighborhood on McDonald Avenue in Newark. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life spirit, generosity, his delicious carne-spit and his grandkids’ favorite Vovô’s soup.
His loss is strongly felt amongst his family, friends, and neighbors. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday December 11, 2024 and services will include a traditional Catholic Mass St. Edward Catholic Church in Newark, California, where he attended mass Sunday mornings at 9am.
