Joseph Gilmete's Obituary
Joseph Gilmete, a resident of Hayward since 1965, passed away on January 2, 2022 at the age of 82. He was raised on the Cape Verdean island of Brava, until the age of 15. He worked on a Fremont dairy ranch as a teenager and retired as a butcher after 30 years. Joe, as most affectionately called him, was married to Inez Foshay Gilmete for 29 years before her passing in 1991. He was a loving and hard-working father of four. Joe was known for his humor and story-telling, which gathered crowds at family get- togethers. He is survived by his sons Joe and Alex, daughters Belinda and Adria, brother Aniceto, many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Private services will be held February 5, 2022 at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
