Josefina Elca Hoque's Obituary
Josefina Elca Hoque, better known as Josie, was born in the Philippines on March 19, 1952. She was the only child to Minnie Tantico Cruz.
In 1981, Josie immigrated to San Francisco, California. Josie’s mother, Minnie and daughter, Cheryll soon followed in 1982. In 1984, Josie met her husband Mohammed. Their first date consisted of a screening of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and her all-time favorite, Chinese food. Josie and Mohammed were married for over 38 years and share two daughters together, Joyce and Jesselle. For 29 years, Josie worked for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 2017.
Josie lived in various Bay Area cities - San Francisco, Oakland, Hayward and Union City. She was a social butterfly with a big personality. Her favorite hobbies included dancing, going to the gym (to socialize), traveling, shopping and eating. She loved the color red and had a soft spot for animals, especially her fur grandson Scooby.
In February of 2020, Josie was hospitalized for over 3 weeks for life threatening health issues. The odds were against her and she pulled through, but not unscathed. Since then, every day has been seen as a blessing. Josie spent the last few years spending time with her family and making the best of life with her weakening health condition. Josie was truly a fighter in her last years.
May her soul rest in eternal paradise.
