Josefina Verwaza Del Mar's Obituary
Josefina “Josie” Verwaza Del Mar passed away on July 13, 2023, at the family home in Hayward, California at the age of 77.
Josie was born on March 1, 1946, in Makati, Philippines to Apolonia and Leoncio Del Mar. Josie grew up in Cebu City before moving to the US in 1968, where she resided in San Francisco. Josie graduated from Golden Gate University with a degree in Business Economics and went on to work as a commercial line insurance underwriter for Transamerica Insurance for 20 years. She spent the rest of her career working in healthcare.
Josie enjoyed frequenting casinos, watching The Filipino Channel, and listening to Engelbert Humperdinck, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Elvis, and Ray Charles. In fact, she sang along to any and every song she heard, even if she hadn’t heard it before. She loved making others laugh with her quick wittedness. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Josie is survived by her daughter, Jocelyn Calderon and Joceyln’s husband, Rolando Calderon; sisters, Irene and Emperatriz Del Mar; grandchildren, Ryan Boydon and Kiani, Leo, and Racquel Moyrong. Josie is preceded in death by her parents, Apolonia and Leoncio Del Mar; daughter, Milagros Alducente; siblings, Leonora Nuñez and Benjamin, Renato, Milagros, and Cristina Del Mar.
