Jose Geva Lim, age 84, of Castro Valley, California passed away on January 9, 2025. Jose was born on November 22, 1940 in Sorsogon, Philippines. Jose is survived by his wife, Sara Jo Lim, and children, Lito, Josephine, Joe, Jojo, Alfonso, Joselyn, Norma, Joey, Ben, Jhoy, Jason, Janet, Justin, and youngest daughter, Sandy; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jose was the son of Alfonso and Micaela Lim, and the last surviving of their 8 children. He was a proud son, brother, cousin, father, husband, grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend to many in the Philippines and United States.
Jose was a proud Filipino American, born and raised in the Philippines then immigrating to the United States in 1973 to join his family in Oakland. He finally settled in Castro Valley after Sandy was born and continued to travel to the Philippines to visit his children and for business purposes. Jose had a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, was a retired police officer and business owner, and former Vice President and President of Manila’s Finest Association, NorCal chapter. Jose took pride in contributing to the community through his law enforcement service, as well as his numerous business ventures including cargo importing and exporting, owning and managing security systems, jewelry and convenience stores. His role as the loss prevention manager for Eastmont Mall's IGA grocery store is where he met his wife, Sara.
Jose was a fan of the Golden State Warriors and boxing, lover of Remy Martin and Johnny Walker, enjoyed James Bond and action films (particularly featuring Clint Eastwood and Steven Seagal), watching Family Feud and CSI in his free time, and most recently, bonding with his beloved pet Yorkie, Penny. He was deeply fulfilled when surrounded by his family and friends at any opportunity. Jose commanded attention when he walked into a room, created his own rules, was intimidated by some but respected by most, and was often the person you could count on to help solve your problems and keep you grounded.
Jose was known for his calm and cool demeanor, being a great story teller, and never missing an opportunity to crack a joke. He was a dreamer and valued his independence and freedom. Jose will always be remembered for his leadership, generosity, loyalty, and most importantly, his love and support for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his vibrant spirit will be remembered forever.
