John C. Sermeno's Obituary
John C. Sermeno, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at his home in Dublin, California. John was born on March 8, 1939 in Sebastian, Texas to Faustino and Adela Sermeno. After his father’s death in 1943, John and his family moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where he was raise by his mother and step-father, Adan Benavidez whom John loving called “Dad”. In 1960 he graduated from the Latin American Bible Institute, El Paso, Texas, attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, and later received his Bachelor of Theology degree from the Latin American Theological Seminary, La Puente, California in 1978 and a Master of Theological Studies from Vanguard University of Southern California, Costa Mesa, California in 2006. John was called to a life of leadership and ministry, pastoring in Julesburg, Colorado, Laramie, Wyoming and Sacramento, California, a total of 56 years. He served as a Presbyter and Executive Presbyter for the Pacific Latin American Districts of the Assemblies of God and was serving as an Honorary Executive Presbyter for the Northern Pacific Latin American District. John loved teaching and preaching God’s Word, faithfully leading and guiding others to a deeper relationship and knowledge of God. During his free time, John loved to spend time vacationing with his wife, children and grandchildren. Their favorite vacation destinations were Palm Springs, California, Kauai, Hawaii and San Felipe, BC. He was also a faithful fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Vicki Sermeno, his son John (Estella) Sermeno and daughter Doreen (Kie) So. John will be deeply missed by his seven grandchildren Justin, John Eli (Ruby), Marc, Jasmyn and Jewelyn (Chris), great-granddaughter Ella, by his siblings Mary (Abraham) Valenzuela, Riley (Patsy) Sermeno, Naomi (Donald) Powers and Jenny (Miles) McNicholas. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Valley Christian Center Performing Arts Building, 7500 Inspiration Drive, Dublin, California 94568, (925) 560 – 6202.
