Joe Tibbs' Obituary
Joe Tibbs was born September 1, 1933 in El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph and Portia Tibbs. He was an only child.Joe’s father was a railroad car repairman. This afforded he and his parents the opportunity to travel all over the United States. Every summer, he visited his aunt and uncle in Tracy, CA by train. Immediately upon Joe’s graduation from high school, he moved to Tracy to attend junior college.Joe worked in construction for over 40 years. He was a well-regarded Laborers Union man and retired as a Business Manager for the Construction Laborers Union Local 304. Joe had many interests that included jazz, cooking, travel, sports, and fishing. He was a gentleman and a sharp dresser. Joe was known for his class, dignity, and gracefulness, but most importantly, Joe was a family man. He believed in family first. Yes, Joe Tibbs was a good man, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, and friend.On September 5, 2018 Joe was taken to Washington Hospital where he passed on September 7, 2018. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 20 years, Emily Duncan; two daughters, Cynthia Tibbs Butler and Sandra Tibbs; two granddaughters, Hasena Butler and Nicole Darensburg; four great-grandchildren, Keionte, Amilleon, Tavion, and Anesah; and a host of other relatives and friends.
