Jinwen Wu was born in Hong Kong in 1922 to Shenxiu Wu and Lizhi He. Jinwen graduated from Zhongshan University of China with a degree in chemistry in 1944. He spent over 40 years working in the oil industry as an engineer, senior engineer, and chief engineer, in addition to holding various management positions in major projects.
After retiring from the oil industry, Jinwen moved to the United States with his wife. In 2010, he founded an ESL class in his senior apartment complex. He devoted much of his time to teaching English to Chinese newcomers. He also helped many immigrants become American citizens.
Jinwen and his wife of 69 years, Jinkun Ma, have three daughters: Fuya, Ningah and Lily; three sons-in-law: Lin Cheng, Lipman Man and David Low; six grandchildren: Linlin, Elise, Mamie, Kitty, Emily and Kimberly; and two great-grandchildren: Yukai and Yue. Jinwen is also survived by three brothers: Jinhan, Jinhai and Jinliu.
伍錦文先生一九二二年在香港出生。父親伍慎修，母親何勵志，妹伍錦屏，弟伍錦翰，弟伍錦海，弟伍錦鎏。
錦文先生一九四四年畢業於中國國立中山大學，專修化學工程。
錦文先生曾就職於中國石油化工企業，歷任工程師、高級工程師和總工程師，工作超過四十年之久。退休之后，他偕同太太馬錦坤移民美國定居。
伍錦文先生一生非常好學，數十年堅持自學英文成才。并於2003年在居住的公寓大廈開設英文班，向附近的華人新移民教授英語，輔導華人新移民入籍，深受學員愛戴。英文班開設了有十年之久。
伍錦文先生與夫人馬錦坤於一九五零年結爲伉儷，相親相愛六十九年，家庭美滿幸福。育有三個女兒：伍伏亞、伍寧亞和伍麗亞；三個女婿：林誠、文立民、劉剛強；六個外孫：林林、文怡、文敏、文雅、劉仲文、劉伊文；兩個重孫：黃耀佳、林悅。
