Jerry Robert McDonald's Obituary
1933 – 2008 Resident of Hayward, CA Jerry Robert McDonald of Hayward was born January 14, 1933 and died on June 20, 2008 of lung disease at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley. He was 75 years old. Jerry was born in Ogden, Utah and moved with his family to San Leandro when he was 13, eventually settling in Hayward. He is survived by his children, son Jerry McDonald and daughters Peggy Jones and Nancy McDonald, as well as a sister, Claire Ann Jupp, and her husband, Stan Jupp. Nephews and nieces who will miss him dearly include Pete Jupp, Michael Jupp, Carolyn Hino, Cheryl Murphy, Laurie Ulrick, Roger McDonald, Michael McDonald, Joseph McDonald, Rickey McDonald, Dennis McDonald and Patrick McDonald. Jerry graduated from San Leandro High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served from 1953-56. Jerry and wife Jean raised a family in Hayward while he worked at management positions at Owens-Illinois and Georgia-Pacific. Jerry learned to be a tax preparer and consultant through courses at Oakland City College and San Jose State and eventually became a self-employed enrolled agent, handing the taxes and financial affairs of homeowners and small businesses in the Hayward area. Jerry was involved in city politics, running for Hayward City Council three times, was chairman of the Law Observance and Fire Prevention Committee, a member of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce, and at various times was the director of the Hayward Boys and Girls Club and president of the Mt. Eden Lions Club. He earned his pilot’s license in the 1970s and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Besides his unwavering loyalty to family and friends, those who knew Jerry will also remember his sense of humor, love of practical jokes and infectious laugh. A memorial service will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial in Hayward at 4 p.m. Saturday at 22737 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 715 Broadway Street, Suite 300 MCA Annex, Aquatic, Va., 22134.
