Jennie A. Horn's Obituary
Jennie Adeline Battaglia Horn, 97, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017, in Novato, CA, surrounded by her beloved family. Mrs. Battaglia Horn was born on August 21, 1920 in Patchogue, NY to Fred and Millie Schordine. She was raised in Patchogue, where she met and married the late William Battaglia Horn, her husband of 62 years. They relocated to California, where they lived in Fremont for 40 years, before moving to Hollywood, MD. Mrs. Battaglia Horn lived with her daughter, Maureen Battaglia, in Novato since 2005. Family was everything to Mrs. Battaglia Horn. She was a stay-at-home mother of three, but her influence extended far beyond her own children. Her home was a gathering spot for her children’s friends ( as well as for neighborhood moms). She was widely known as “GG”- a nickname her great-grandmother used, but she was also “Mom” to many. Her extended family holds fond memories of the Christmas Eve celebrations she hosted, always featuring her famous meatballs. Visually impaired most of her life and completely sightless in recent years, Mrs. Battaglia Horn saw the beauty in everyone she met. As a result, she had a wide circle of friends of all ages and she kept up with them as good friends do—calling to check in, praying for them in times of need- until her death. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Battaglia Horn was predeceased by a son, Dennis Battaglia; a grandson, Robert Battaglia; two brothers, Joseph Schordine and George Schordine, a sister, Marie Zimlinghaus, and a duaghter-in-law, Diane Battaglia. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, William Battaglia of Hollywood, MD; daughters-in-law, Etta Battaglia of Hollywood, MD, and Alynn Brutsman of Paradise, CA; a sister, Joan Zimlinghaus of Patchogue, NY; 10 grandchildren, Maria Perrygo of Hollywood, MD; Nicole Wolf of Novato , CA; Kim Battaglia of San Diego, CA; Preston Kerwin-Battaglia of West New York, NJ; Amber Battaglia, Alli Battaglia, Nicholas Battaglia, Christopher Battaglia and Mary Battaglia, all of Paradise, CA, and Pharus Hudzietz-Battaglia of Auberry, CA; 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive guests at a memorial service from 10:00 a.m to noon Tuesday, Dec 5, 2017 at Chapel of the Chimes32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward CA 94544. A reception will follow in Novato, CA.
