Jean N. Weaver's Obituary
Jean Weaver, a long-time resident of Fremont, died Friday in Stanford Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 77. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her husband at some of the distant locations such as Nicaragua and Nova Scotia where his job as an engineering geologist took him, and spending lengthy vacations in her home state of Hawaii. Mrs. Weaver was born in Honolulu on April 12, 1925, and returned there to teach following her graduation from San Jose State in 1947. She relocated to California in 1951, and married her husband of 50 years on Thanksgiving Day of that same year. She taught for several years in Palo Alto and in Southern California before receiving an MA degree from San Jose State in 1955. She then accepted a position as principal for the Newark Unified School District, where she served in various administrative positions until her retirement in 1985. Teachers who worked with her have described her as the best principal they ever had.She is survived by her husband, Ken Weaver of Fremont; her son, John Weaver of Livermore; her sister, Irma Cross of Fillmore; and one grandson.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 14, 2002 at The Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Burial in Oahu Cemetery will follow at a later date.Mrs. Weaver's family suggests donations to Life ElderCare in Fremont or to the American Cancer Society in Lieu of Flowers.
